Healthy Breakfast

Hubby and I are have been working on eating better. We were never really into top/juice and chips, but really liked out takeout. Especially when I was pregnant, or Baby C was little. For a year now we have been searching for a healthier approach to eating.

After cutting out most carbs like bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and buckwheat, we now feel that our meal plans need to be adjusted a bit more. We're back to eating potatoes (sometimes), buckwheat and rye bread (sometimes). However, there are other things I want us to try on the road to overall wellness. 1st thing being = eating a healthy breakfast vs. just coffee.

So I ask you, do you eat breakfast? what do you eat for breakfast? any recipes you can share?

  1. I make crispbread with quinoa flour, ground almonds, flax seeds and other other ingredients. It's got healthy fats in it and it's really filling with a piece of fruit. Or, I'll often have fruit and cheese for breakfast. Boiled eggs and fruit are another option. Weird but I also like turkey sausage at breakfast time. (IB)

  2. You're way too healthy for me. I can cut carbs for a few weeks when I want to drop weight quickly but not for a whole year. I generally have rye bread toast with philadelphia spread. Do you guys have that? It's basically half cream cheese and half cottage cheese.

  3. It's hard at first because you're so used to eating carbs. But one your body gets used to have getting any, its very easy to go without.
Our trick was to start dinner with soup so that we would feel more full at the end. And have a lot of non-carb food on hand to curb cravings.
It takes about 3 weeks for you to re-program your body. However, this is not for everyone. It is much easier for me to do than for my husband. So I would never suggest this as the best and only way. Everyone's different and different things work for different people.

  4. Muesli with skim milk. Followed by coffeee!!!
Love my coffee. If I don't need a kick-start I can wait for a couple of hours to have my fave chai from my fave cafe.

We cut down on carbs intermittently and I try to avoid them at night...soup is a good one! Although I have to resist putting bread with it.

Salad with haloumi for dinner is a fave. But the boys love their carbs, especially the little ones. It's pasta, pasta, pasta!
