First things first - room for books and millions of little art projects she brings home from daycare. This is the adult version that I love. The different colours frames are really tugging at my heart strings :)
The KID version.

I found these Ikea frames on sale, two for $2.49. And bought at least 16 of them. Ooopps... At least now we'll never want for colourful tiny frames. Also, I find that the Ikea LACK bookshelves are always a great investment. They are inexpensive, relatively well made and super versatile (and I already have colourful baskets that will go there perfectly).
Next, colourful rug in a white room. Adult version.
Kid version.
Rug, Ikea again. Good price. Now that we'll have hardwood (at some point everywhere), we need to make sure that her bum is warm :) I'm torn on whether this will be WAY too much with the flowers on the wall, but we'll see. I will be toning the flowers down, and I do want to layer around them. And I can always return this rug and look for something else. What do you guys think? What is your philosophy on kids rooms? And especially rooms for girls??

Great ideas! It's funny that you posted that "adult" version the gallery wall you want to do in Baby C's room today! B and I are sitting on the couch at his parents talking about things we'd like to pick up at Target while we are here. I was thinking of doing ALL white frames for the gallery wall in our living room, but that wall of black, white and natural wood is FANTASTIC and we already have a natural wood RIBBA frame with a picture of Halle in it that we want to use. Thank you for the PERFECT inspiration at the PERFECT moment! :)
ReplyDeleteYou've seen what I've done for my girl's room :)Colours, yes. Storage, yes. Non commercial theme, yes. Can grow and adapt easily with her, yes. Girly? Maybe?
ReplyDeleteI like your choices. What colours of the frames did you get?
@ Kerry: oh, happy to inspire :) I LOVE combination of different coloured frames.
ReplyDelete@ Guilia: I got pink, red, turquoise and green. I love your daughter's room. The painted dresser you added this year is really great :)
I love that rug, especially because it doesn't scream "kid's room" at all. Can't wait to see it all come together :)
ReplyDeleteMy philosophy on girls' rooms is basically think twice before doing anything pink and princess-y. So of course I LOVE where you're going with BabyC's room. Looks awesome!
ReplyDeleteWhat magical place do you live in where Ikea has kilim rugs? I am very jealous: our Ikea in Texas just has the regular cheese you see on the Ikea USA site (too harsh maybe, my heart is set on a kilim and everything else looks awful right now). FWIW, we went with an uber-cheap green cotton woven rug which turned out to be the right choice when she went through her scribbling phase. The nice thing about flat-weave rugs is that you can turn them over and they can be marker-free side up... ;-)
ReplyDeleteactually up until today, our Ikea didn't carry anything super interesting. Today is an awesome day in Ottawa, the largest in Canada Ikea opened in our fair city :) and it is a 3 min drive from my house! :)
ReplyDeleteI saw many really great kilim rugs on the Canadian Ikea website. I cannot believe we might have something US doesn't :P usually it is the other way around with us ordering things from south of the border.
thanks for stopping by! :) hope to see you around the blog again soon.
