Over the weekend we did a tiny little project, we painted the skirt (I think that's the technical term) of our staircase and added a bit of trim. Even with just one coat of colour (same as the wall, Gray Owl at 50%) everything feels so much lighter! And we absolutely love how a 1" corner piece of trim worked here. We spent the entire weekend admiring our handy work. It is such a small thing, but we (detail oriented freaks) feel the improvement down to our bones.
Just a reminder of our BEFORE:
In other staircase news, next Monday is the install date for the new railing. I knew from the beginning that the posts and railing would be natural oak, but what to do about spindels was always a big question. Originally we settled on plain 1.5"by1.5" square white spindles. But, as happens often around here, changed our minds at the last minute.
This is the picture I sent hubby when I went to put a deposit down on the railing. What about bruched nickel round spindles??? Of course these are a bit pricier (what isn't!) but I think they'll work well with our overall aesthetic.
Lets hope we like them when they are installed.
This coming weekend we have to do the hardwood on the 2nd story landing (just in time for the railing to be installed). And the week after that we are hoping to schedule the carpet install. I feel that once the stairs are done the house will feel so much more put together. And that's a very welcome feeling.
